Opération chirurgicale consistant à inciser la couche musculaire de l'œsophage jusqu'à la muqueuse.

L'opération de Heller est indiquée en cas de méga-œsophage ou achalasie (dilatation importante de l'œsophage due à un spasme des muscles de son extrémité inférieure). L'opération consiste à pratiquer une cardiotomie (incision de la couche musculaire du cardia, zone frontière entre l'œsophage et l'estomac, épargnant la muqueuse) sur une hauteur de 10 à 12 centimètres. L'angle entre l'œsophage et l'estomac (angle de His) est ensuite reconstitué afin d'empêcher le reflux des aliments de l'estomac vers l'œsophage.
